The Homestead

Listed Buildings

The Homestead is Grade II listed for its special architectural and historic interest.  Following a fire which destroyed the second storey of the building,  our works were to repair all fire damage together with adaptations and modernisation works.  This also included an extension to the rear of the property.

The 19th and 21st Century roofs had to be completely replaced with new oak timbers, thatch at the front of the property and handmade clay tiles at the rear. This  involved the careful de-construction of the gables to allow for restoration works to be undertaken.  Upper floor wattle and daub panels were repaired and reinstated.  Traditional timber frame repairs in oak and lime mortar work to lower level plinth walls and brick panels were also carried out. The dwelling was also reconfigured and extended to improve the layout.  The rear extension included a large oak framed glazing to allow in light and enjoy the country views.

A selective strip out of the remaining building was done to modernise the interior of the building.  This included adding a new kitchen and bathroom with electrical and plumbing upgrades undertaken.
