Shaw Farm was built in the North Wessex Downs in 1810. This project was the conversion of an existing single storey masonry agricultural barn to create a two-bedroom residential unit. The works were to sensitively repaired the barn and upgrade the fabric to create a low energy dwelling that fits the historic pattern of the farm.
The conversion carefully removed the 20th century alterations and conserved the original masonry walls and timber roof structure. New timber cladding elevations were recessed to revive the memory of the former open shelter. Internally the accommodation was created to have a balanced open communal area with intimate enclosure spaces for residents. Finally external landscaping of the site was completed to reinstate the duel aspect of the central courtyard and views across the agricultural landscape at the rear of the property.
